Salil Banerjee

Salil Banerjee is trained as a theoretical physicist who has worked on various topics in physics, telecommunications and internet technology during his career of almost 45 years. After receiving his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in physics from I.I.T Kharagpur, graduating at the top of his class in both programs, Salil came to the United States in 1972 and completed his Ph.D. in theoretical condensed matter physics from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. After some post-doctoral research and teaching, and a brief stint at NASA, Salil joined the AT&T Bell Laboratories. His work there and subsequently at Telcordia Technologies focused mostly on telecommunications networks. At Telcordia Technologies, he also served as a team director for several years and worked with the entire industry to help develop multiple international telecommunications standards. He received the Telcordia President’s Recognition Award twice for his contributions. Later in his career, Salil focused on internet system performance analysis, modeling, and forecasting. Salil retains a strong interest in physics and other scientific and technological pursuits that promise solutions to the global challenges confronting us.
