Dr. Gautam Sengupta is a distinguished cardiothoracic surgeon who led the Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery Department at SSKM Hospital and IPGME&R in Kolkata. He helped standardize coronary bypass surgery, advanced minimally invasive and video‑assisted thoracic techniques, and managed complex cardiac and vascular trauma in a resource‑constrained government setting. Under his leadership, the unit performed five heart transplants with no early in‑hospital mortality.
